all of her life and got a big kick out of seeing Lauren perform.
Isn't She Lovely?
A graceful ballerinaOur little Ladybug had her 1st dance recital on May 23rd, 2008 (the Friday before Memorial Day.) It worked out perfectly with my school system's last day of school falling on that Wednesday. (Next year's school schedule won't be as lucky. I'll have to take off work 2 days before school is out to get her to her rehearsal!)
We were very impressed with the performances from the instructors and company dancers. I purchased a copy of the night's performance on DVD, since video and cameras were not allowed during the performance. That DVD proved to be Lauren's absolute favorite movie this summer while I was on summer break from teaching.
Lauren performed her two routines, ballet and tap. I have to admit that Philip and I were both nervous about her getting stage fright since she had been going through a "shy" phase during our church minister's children's sermons. At church she would try to hide her face, sit behind a plant, etc. to avoid the church crowd looking at her. We just weren't sure what would happen when she would step out onto that auditorium stage.
Well, to make a long story short, Lauren did an outstanding job and didn't miss a step in her tap routine. Although Lauren is one of the tallest girls in her dance class, she is the 2nd youngest. She is in the 4 and 5 year old class, and she was still only 3 years old when the class started last fall. All of the girls in her class danced so gracefully. I was so very proud of them all. We had a nice group of Mommy's and daughters in this class, and I will miss them next season.
Lauren got so "tickled" at herself during one part of "Animal Crackers" (Shirley Temple) that she was practically laughing! Ballet went great, too. However, it cracked me up that she was concentrating so hard on the hand motions that she sometimes forgot to position her feet! He he he! We were so proud of her, and I was laughing through the tears. My baby is growing up so fast and I haven't figured out a way to freeze time for just a little longer!
I was happy to hear that Lauren loved performing and couldn't wait to do it again! This was the best night of her life, according to Lauren. Of course I couldn't help but give her some gifts to add to the trophy that she received. We gave Lauren a bouquet of roses, a Hannah Montana makeup kit, and a Ballerina Barbie with blonde hair and pink tutu (just like Lauren!) My parents also have her a beautiful bouquet of flowers as well!
I can't wait until next year's recital. Lauren will be doing three routines next May; ballet, tap and now jazz!
